Switchville Crossing Hosts Official Ground Breaking
On Friday, March 12, 2010, Duke Real Estate Partners, LLC hosted a Ground Breaking Ceremony for Switchville Crossing, a mixed-use center located at Highland Avenue and Wharton Road in Jenkintown, PA.
Many local officials were present to celebrate this exciting community development. Among those in attendance were Abington Township Commissioners Carol Di Joseph (Ward 12), Steven Klein (Ward 1), Peggy Meyers (Ward 8), Carol Gillespie (Ward 13), and PA Representative Josh Shapiro (153rd Legislative District, Montgomery County). Also in attendance were members of the Abington Township Planning Commission and the Greater Glenside Civic Association.
Rep. Shapiro remarked, “Today is a great day for Glenside, Abington Township and Montgomery County.” He went on to say, “This is development at its best….Switchville Crossing represents the best of the best.”
The site, adjacent to Standard Press Steel on Highland Avenue, was originally owned by Philadelphia Electric Company. More recently, it was the home of Willard, Inc, a sheet metal manufacturing facility that ceased operation in 2002. Duke Real Estate Partners, LLC purchased the property in 2005 and began the approval process for a mixed-use center.
This exciting new project will bring new life to the vacant property, creating a strong neighborhood destination as well providing jobs for area residents. According to Rep. Shapiro, “We are building a project for our community and about our community.”
Switchville Crossing will include a 42,000 sf LA Fitness, scheduled for completion for November 2010. A 3–story, 40,470 sf office building with ground level retail and restaurant space, and a 3,000 sf bank building are scheduled to break ground in 2011.
